Author of several books on furniture making, especially American Colonial styles, and wood carving, Gottshall was a master woodworker as well as a consumate technical draughtsman, known for his exacting pen & ink or pencil mechanical drawings which were used to illustrate his books. This group of large superb drawings demonstrate his knowledge of historical styles and his skill as a designer. They include elevations, sections, cut-aways and isometric plans for the making of fine furniture. Exact measurements are given for each component, as well as information on materials, joining and construction.
