Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) The greatest and most celebrated Flemish painter of his age, executing many portraits, church commissions and work for the Spanish Courts in the Netherlands and as Court Painter in Mantua. He maintained a large studio with numerous assistants among whom were van Dyck, Jordaens and Snyders. He eventually became an international ambassador, visiting Holland, Spain and England in that capacity
