Coypel (1694-1752) From a great family of painters, Coypel became first
Painter to the king in 1743 and Director of the Academy in 1747. He
enjoyed a very distinguished career with a huge output of portraits,
religious paintings, tapestry designs, book illustrations and also writings on art.
